Dinner and a Tanuki

Husband took me to Eat More Greens in Azabu Juban, a vegan/vegetarian restaurant. This is awesome for two reasons: one, because Husband is almost a carnivore and vegetables aren't really his thing, and two, it is extremely difficult to be vegetarian in Tokyo and nigh impossible to be vegan. This is why I expanded my diet to include fish when we moved here.

They don't have a huge menu, but the taco rice is very well seasoned, nice and spicy!

The rice is hiding underneath.

The pumpkin pie is really good, too. Mostly straight mashed pumpkin, and I'm a big fan.

We strolled around looking for a place to have a drink before catching a movie (Snow White and the Huntsman. Pretty good in spite of the plot holes.) and ended up walking from Roppongi to Shibuya.

Along the way, we saw one of the more interesting tanuki statues.

It's not uncommon to see a tanuki statue in front of a restaurant or small business, but they're not usually this big. Or, shall we say, anatomically exaggerated. Well, they always have big berries, but they don't usually have an articulated twig to go with it.
My, what big...teeth you have.

A-hurr hurr...we so sexy.

And Husband baked me a cake, because it was my birthday. Spice cake with cream cheese frosting, everything from scratch. I am a lucky woman.

Kuro Relaxes a Little

Kuro is very good at purring. She also seems to have a Roll Over switch on her side or on her belly.

Her nails aren't painted, they're acrylic caps. It's more humane than declawing and keeps her from scratching things.
She's not really crazy about them, but I think they're great.

In other news, she's kind of figured out how doors work. A few weeks ago, this was an insurmountable obstacle.

Her socialization is progressing, too.
At first, she wouldn't come down the stairs.

Then, she wouldn't come near Crooked or let Crooked come near her.

Then she was okay being in the same room for a few minutes.

Then they would sniff, although they still aren't really buddies.

One day, Kuro actually sat on my lap. She doesn't like being picked up and cuddled, so this was significant.

However, my desk is definitely Crooked territory, so when these happened at the same time, it was effectively the end of my work day.

Yep.

Kuro is a 6-year-old spayed female, available for adoption through the Japan Cat Network. She is a little shy, but she is quiet and self-sufficient. She has lived in a family with middle-school-aged boys, but I think she would also be a great companion for a working professional, either as a single cat or in a multi-cat household. She doesn't need a lot of attention, but she appreciates it when she gets it. Because she is so quiet, she would do well in an apartment.
