In the meantime, here's some stuff from our trip to Florida.
The morning we saw the rocket launch, we drove to Bok Tower, a local landmark significant for its immaculate gardens, built by some crazy rich guy who loved the environment. It's really something.
Start your visit in the Restrooms.
Gardens like this are beautiful in the morning, and possibly even more so when you're the only people around.
This dragonfly isn't dead, it just hasn't warmed up yet.
I tried several times to upload this image so it isn't sideways, but no dice. The inscription says,
"The kiss of the sun for pardon
The song of the birds for mirth
You are nearer God's heart in a garden
Than anywhere else on Earth."
The song of the birds for mirth
You are nearer God's heart in a garden
Than anywhere else on Earth."
We saw some swans, and we were like, "Cool, swans!" But it turns out that it's mating season and they're feeling overly territorial. In this photo, they're pacing the guys in the maintenance truck, just waiting for an opportunity to strike. Or steal the tires, I'm not sure.
Swans hate boots! Rarr, take that!
But they sure are picturesque, regardless of their foul mood.
Ten years ago, the big thing to do at Bok Tower was feed the squirrels, which would climb right up you to get to the food. Until people started complaining, and the garden stopped providing food and most of the squirrels forgot that people = foodstuffs if they are brave enough to snatch crumbs from fingertips. We found a couple that remembered.
This little guy was particularly bold and jumped right up the Mew's leg with very little prompting. Getting the critter to climb me for a bit of bagel, however, was not as easy.
