Jungle Baby Shower

A friend is going to have twins this summer, and I hosted her baby shower. We went for a sort of fusion of themes, Jungle and Cinco de Mayo. It was on the weekend of Cinco de Mayo and they have a thing for monkeys because of a family legend.

I made some signs to point the way through the neighborhood, decorations for the gate, and a shopping bag full of origami flowers and butterflies to throw around the room. (It was pretty festive in spite of half the decorations I ordered not arriving in time.)

SO much more food than necessary.

Closeup of gluten free sloths, because I'm kind of proud of my decorating.
Mint chocolate with homemade cream cheese frosting.
You bet your ass they were delicious.

One of the things that did arrive in time was a package of tiny plastic monkeys. Two were hidden in cupcakes. The people that found the monkeys won plants in egg containers, wrapped to look like margaritas.

Egg plants (crack the egg, add water, plants grow) = margaritas

After lunch and introductions, we played a few games and handed out prizes. The games aren't important, I just want to show you how I wrapped the prizes because I am simultaneously proud of how they turned out and a little embarrassed at how long I spent on it.

After putting monkeys in cupcakes, I had a bunch left and didn't know what to do with them. So I put them on prizes.

Bath stuff = jungle animals and palm trees

Different bath stuff = palm trees, origami flower

Magnetic nail polish and nail doodads = peacock

Tea = sloth

Prizes that weren't won in games or by eating cupcakes were distributed by playing Gift Bingo, which is exactly what you think it is: a bunch of random baby-related words were scattered on bingo cards and marked off when the mother-to-be opened something fitting that description.

Overall, I think it went really well! I'm told it was a success, and I'm not inclined to argue.
